My work explores the forms, texture and contrast of turbulence and beauty in nature: the tension between a rugged coastline, a menacing sky and the frivolity of light reflecting on waves. I try to maintain a spontaneous approach, by inspiring myself from a compilation of memories, sketches and photographs, working on 4 or 5 pieces at a time. To accentuate the naturalistic theme I experiment using a variety of found materials - paper, sand, paste, string - to engage the viewer beyond a purely visual experience.
This year, in addition to my seascapes and coastal scenes, I have been working on a series of winter landscapes inspired particularly by the colours and forms of the Scandinavian countryside.
From childhood Claire-Anne has been captivated by the Cornish coastline which is the starting point for many of her works. She is drawn to its landscape which so effortlessly blends a medley of white houses tumbling down a hillside, with the wild untamed beauty of its coastline.
She has BA in modern languages and has a CV that spans banking, fundraising and market research, yet throughout she has developed her artistic experience through courses in oil painting, life drawing, print making and sculpture. She lives and works in London.
